Take a stand against bullying and support #LGBTQ youth by going purple for #SpiritDay on October 17: glaad.org/spiritday

Spirit day 2019 Event

This year’s Spirit Day event, Bold Bodies and Connected Communities will be held on Thursday, October 17th, 2019 in Stern Ballroom (71 George St, 4th floor) from 5-7 PM in partnership with the College of Charleston's Women's and Gender Studies Department (WGS), Gender and Sexuality Equity Center (GSEC), Multicultural Student Programs and Services (MSPS), Prism, and Out Front Initiative.

The Spirit Day event will feature a youth panel and fashion show performance from guest hosts, Preston Souza and Alex O'Hanley from the Phluid Project. The Phluid Project is a gender-free brand (androgynous, unisex, gender neutral) selling clothing, accessories, and beauty for the LGBTQIA+ community. This event is open to the community and is completely FREE to attend!

Spirit day anti-bullying toolkit

According to recent studies, 7 out of 10 LGBTQ students experience harassment at school, and over 60% of LGBTQ students who did report a bullying case said their school staff did nothing. By participating in Spirit Day, we can show LGBTQ youth that they are not alone in their journey to acceptance.

Past Spirit Day participants include Ellen DeGeneres, Kerry Washington, President Barack Obama, Britney Spears, Laverne Cox, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Troye Sivan, the cast of Queer Eye, Viacom, Netflix, HBO, major American sports leagues, corporations like Facebook, Twitter, PepsiCo, and Delta Air Lines and hundreds more schools, celebs, national landmarks, companies, nonprofits, and teams.

International Pronouns Day

We will also be celebrating International Pronouns Day on October 16th with a tabling event in Cougar Mall from 10 AM-2 PM. International Pronouns Day seeks to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace. Both We Are Family and the College of Charleston are listed as official endorsers of International Pronoun Day on the website. #askmemypronouns
